What Is Xcursi

The product story: fast threads, stars, mentions, messages, moderation, and embeddable community.

The chatty shape

Xcursi inherits the useful parts of the old Shacknews-style chatty: a main thread stream, quick replies, visible nesting, refreshable conversations, and a reading experience that rewards staying in the flow.

Around that shape, Xcursi adds the pieces a reusable community system needs: account-level communities, star spaces, @mentions, private messages, image previews, moderator tools, and a way to embed discussion into another site.

Stars and constellations

Stars are named community spaces. A star can have children, so a community can grow from broad topics into useful constellations without forcing every conversation into one flat feed.

In product terms, stars can act like forums, categories, teams, projects, tags, or living rooms. The important part is that they are navigable, searchable, and easy to reference from a post.

Moderation as repair, not theater

Xcursi’s moderation model is intentionally light-touch:

• risky posts are hidden but still visible as moderated placeholders;
• authors get an inbox message with the reason;
• moderators can reverse over-moderation;
• reversals create reports that improve the local moderation prompt over time.

The goal is a strong “no assholes” norm with enough humility to undo mistakes.

What Xcursi is not

It is not trying to recreate heavyweight forum culture. No signature blocks. No avatar-first layout. No profile vanity as the center of the experience. Posts, threads, stars, and people come first.
